CVIP Licensed Facility
What Is A CVIP Inspection?
The Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) is Alberta’s mandatory safety inspection for commercial trucks, trailers, and buses. As a licensed inspection facility in Red Deer, we check your vehicle against National Safety Code standards from bumper to taillight and issue your certificate and decal on the spot when it passes. For Red Deer owner-operators and Central Alberta fleets, that means no long haul to another town and no waiting weeks for a booking. You get in, we inspect it right, and you get back to work.
- Full inspection to National Safety Code (NSC) standards
- Wheels-off brake, drum, and lining measurement
- Government inspection certificate and decal when you pass
- A clear write-up of anything that needs attention
What A CVIP Covers
A CVIP is a top-to-bottom safety inspection, not a quick look-over. Here are the major systems we go through on every truck and trailer that rolls into our Red Deer shop.
Brakes (Wheels-Off)
Every wheel comes off so we can measure lining, drums, hardware, and air-brake stroke. It is the check a wheels-on look-over simply can’t do.
Steering & Suspension
Tie rods, kingpins, springs, hangers, shocks, and airbags checked for wear, play, and cracks that affect how the truck handles.
Frame & Coupling
Frame rails, crossmembers, fifth wheels, pintle hooks, and hitches inspected for cracks, corrosion, and secure mounting.
Tires & Wheels
Tread depth, sidewall condition, rims, studs, and hub seals. These are the parts carrying your load down every highway mile.
Lights & Electrical
Headlights, markers, signals, brake lights, and trailer wiring tested so you stay visible and legal after dark.
Engine, Exhaust & Fuel
Leaks, mounts, exhaust routing, and fuel-system integrity checked for safety and emissions compliance.
CVIP Inspections Across Red Deer & Central Alberta
We are a Red Deer shop built around the trucks that keep Central Alberta moving: haulers running the QEII, ag equipment coming off the fields, and service rigs working Gasoline Alley. Wherever you are based, your annual CVIP is easy to book and done to standard.
Serving Red Deer & The County
Owner-operators and fleets from Red Deer, Blackfalds, Lacombe, Sylvan Lake, Innisfail, Penhold, and across Red Deer County trust us for their yearly inspection.
Built For Central Alberta Roads
Trucks working Highway 2 (the QEII), Highway 11, and Highway 2A take a beating. We inspect for the wear those long, loaded miles actually cause.
In And Out Fast
Book ahead and we keep your inspection tight, so your truck is parked for hours, not days, and back to earning across the region.

CVIP FAQs
The questions drivers, owner-operators, and fleet managers ask us most about commercial vehicle inspections.
Does my vehicle need a CVIP inspection?
In Alberta, most commercial trucks registered over 11,794 kg, trailers over 4,500 kg GVWR, and buses built for 11 or more passengers need a valid CVIP certificate to operate. Not sure where your truck or trailer lands? Call the shop and we’ll tell you straight.
How often do I need a CVIP inspection?
Most commercial vehicles need a CVIP inspection once every 12 months; buses are every 6 months. Your certificate and decal show the expiry date, and we remind fleet customers before theirs comes due.
What is a “wheels-off” inspection?
A proper brake inspection means pulling the wheels and drums to measure lining thickness, drum wear, and hardware. Those are things you can’t see with the wheels on. As a licensed CVIP facility we do the full wheels-off inspection so nothing gets missed.
How long does a CVIP inspection take?
A single truck or trailer usually takes a few hours, depending on its condition and whether any repairs are needed. Booking ahead keeps your downtime short, so get in touch to reserve a spot.
What happens if my vehicle fails?
You’ll get a clear list of what needs fixing. Because we’re a full-service heavy-duty shop, we can complete most repairs on site and re-inspect, so you leave with a pass instead of a to-do list.
Do you inspect trailers and whole fleets?
Yes. Trucks, tractors, and trailers, one unit or a whole fleet. Ask us about scheduling recurring CVIPs so your equipment stays road-legal without you tracking every expiry date.
Which areas around Red Deer do you serve?
Red Deer is home base, but we look after trucks and trailers from right across Central Alberta: Blackfalds, Lacombe, Sylvan Lake, Innisfail, Penhold, Ponoka, and the surrounding counties. If you can get it to the shop, we can inspect it.
